Sat, Sept 25, 8pm at UCLA’s Royce Hall, Symphonic Jazz Orchestra in Concert with Special Guests George Duke, Raul Midon and Grammy Award winning jazz vocalist and Brazilian native Luciana Souza. The Concert also features World Premiere of “Elements,” a SJO Commissioned Piece from Composer/Conductor Charles Floyd. The 67-member professional ensemble, under the leadership of Music Directors George Duke and Mitch Glickman, is dedicated to the commissioning and performing of symphonic jazz compositions. Since its debut in 2002, the Orchestra has performed six world premieres along with three U.S. premieres in concerts throughout Southern California including Royce Hall. Sat. October 2, 2010 at 8:00 p.m, J.U.I.C.E Hip Hop Festival at the Ford in Hollywood. Street dance has only recently begun to be performed at the Ford Amphitheatre, starting with J.U.i.C.E.’s ground breaking show, “Breaking the Cypher”, in 2007. This year, LA’s top Hip Hop dancer-choreographers — Amy ‘Catfox’ Campion, Jacob ‘Kujo’ Lyons and Emiko Sugiyama use dazzling upside-down spins, intricate footwork, twisted freezes and gravity-defying flips as an expressive vocabulary. This innovative street dance festival, set to the body rocking beats of a live DJ, spliced with spoken word poetry and live graffiti art, is sure to please traditional theater.

Thurs, March 10 of 2011 at 8pm, the Bale Folkloric of Bahia performing at the Campbell Hall – UCSB Santa Barbara. A 38-members troupe of dancers, musicians and singers that performing a repertory based in the Bahian folklore including capoeira, samba de roda and afoxe. Free Summer Fun at the Park

Every summer one of the greatest things in South California is the Free Outdoor and Indoor Music Series in different locations. The Twilight Dance Series is FREE and has been a Southern California tradition for twenty-two years. After severe storms damaged the Pier in 1983, the newly formed Santa Monica Pier Restoration Corporation and the Santa Monica Arts Commission decided to put together a series of concerts to raise awareness about the restoration project and build community spirit. Putting together a small amount of seed money to start the event, the City staged the first concerts under a large blue and white tent dubbed “The LaMonica” after the ballroom that graced the Pier from the late 1930s to the early 1960s. Long-time friend of the Pier Katharine King named the concerts the Twilight Dance Series and the moniker stuck. www.twilightdance.org

The Summer Sessions Free Outdoor Concert at the Getty Center in L.A… each year the series presents a diverse lineup of musical talents, many of whom mix and match musical traditions and genres. The series showcased a myriad of musical styles, from hip-hop, blues, and rock, to Latin boogaloo, Afro-Peruvian jazz, Mexican cabaret, merengue, electronic beats, Indian rhythms, and even Algerian trance music. Summer Series at Los Angeles County Museum of Art – LACMA… Every Friday, April through December, admission-free jazz concerts are presented on the Los Angeles Times Central Court from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. These events feature the art of jazz as practiced by outstanding jazz artists from Los Angeles and elsewhere. Also, launched in conjunction with LACMA`s Latin American Art Initiative, Latin Sounds offers free eclectic music from various regions throughout Latin America. The venue is the LACMA park amphitheater.
