The
Twilight Dance Series
is FREE and has been a Southern California tradition for twenty-two
years. After severe storms damaged the Pier in 1983, the newly formed
Santa Monica Pier Restoration Corporation and the Santa Monica Arts
Commission decided to put together a series of concerts to raise
awareness about the restoration project and build community spirit.
Putting together a small amount of seed money to start the event, the
City staged the first concerts under a large blue and white tent
dubbed “The LaMonica” after the ballroom that graced the
Pier from the late 1930s to the early 1960s. Long-time friend of the
Pier Katharine King named the concerts the Twilight Dance Series and
the moniker stuck. www.twilightdance.org
