Sat, March 21 at 8:00am, ROGA: A FREE event at the Santa Monica Pier promoting health and fitness. Run at 8:00 am and Yoga at 9:00 am. This is a re-occurring event every Saturday until August. More info HERE.
Sun, March 22 at 4:00pm, Sounds of L.A.: Hamilton de Holanda Quartet at Getty Center. Guitarist Rogério Souza, guitarist Edinho Gerber, and percussionist Ami Molinelli survey the musical history and evolution of Choro. More info and tickets HERE.
Sat, April 18 (11am-8pm) and Sun, April 19 (11am-6pm), Santa Barbara Earth Day Festival at the Alameda Park in Santa Barbara. New, on Friday (17) evening there is a concert with a beer and wine garden. A FREE community environmental council event. More info HERE.
Wed, May 27 ( Doors open at 8pm), Natiruts in Concert at the Fonda Theater in Los Angeles. A Brazilian reggae band that has been around for over two decades with a successful history will be performing live. More info HERE.
Fri, June 5 (to Sun, June 7) is time for the Annual Los Angeles International Samba Congress, the biggest Samba Event Outside of Brazil. The ISC theme for the 2020 Congress is “CABOCLO SPIRITS OF SAMBA”! More info HERE.
Fri, Jul 31 at 9 pm. Zouk Vibes – Brazilian Colors at Brazilian Zouk (369 East 17th Street, Costa Mesa). The event invites you to bring your Brazilian pride and wear Blue, Green, and Yellow to dance. More info here.
California Summer fun and free
Every summer one of the greatest things in South California is the Free Outdoor and Indoor Music Series in different venues/locations – live music and dance free to the public is offered during the whole summer every year. Here bellow we cover mostly of this events – or at least the best ones!
Twilight on the Pier in Santa Monica – It has been a Southern California tradition for over twenty years. After severe storms damaged the Pier in 1983, the newly formed Santa Monica Pier Restoration Corporation and the Santa Monica Arts Commission decided to put together a series of concerts to raise awareness about the restoration project and build community spirit. Putting together a small amount of seed money to start the event, the City staged the first concerts under a large blue and white tent dubbed “The La Monica” after the ballroom that graced the Pier from the late 1930s to the early 1960s. Long-time friend of the Pier Katharine King named the concerts as “Twilight Dance Series” that now is knowing as “The Twilight on the Pier”. in 2019 the free concert series changed from Thurs to Wed’s – https://santamonicapier.org/twilight/.
The Summer Sessions Free Outdoor Concert at the Getty Center in L.A – Each year the series presents a diverse lineup of musical talents, many of whom mix and match musical traditions and genres. The series showcased a myriad of musical styles, from hip-hop, blues, and rock, to Latin boogaloo, Afro-Peruvian jazz, Mexican cabaret, merengue, electronic beats, Indian rhythms, and even Algerian trance music. All concerts are free and no reservations are needed. Concerts take place from 6:00 p.m. until 9:30 p.m. at the J. Paul Getty Museum at the Getty Center. www.getty.edu
Summer Series Culver City Music Festival – The Culver City re-development agency and the City of Culver City Presents every year the Annual Culver City Summer Sunset Music Festival. Listen to a mix of Jazz, Samba, Bluegrass, 60’s Rock and World Music at the Culver City Hall Courtyard. Bring a blanket, chairs and a picnic basket and get ready to dance the night away with your family and friends! Summer Series at Fisherman’s Village – Located in beautiful Marina Del Rey in L.A area, Fisherman’s Village offers Saturday concerts from 1:00pm – 4:00pm. Listen to sounds of Jazz, Reggae, R&B, Funk, Soul, Latin Jazz and Americana Pop. Summer Series at Burton Chace Park – The Free Marina del Rey Summer Concerts are held in a beautiful waterside setting at Burton Chace Park. The series features Thursday evening classical concerts showcasing the Marina del Rey Summer Symphony, with Frank Fetta, conductor and guest soloists. On alternate weeks, Saturday pop concerts star celebrated musical entertainers. You are welcome to bring a picnic basket full of your favorite foods! Summer Series at Pershing Square – Pershing Square is an outdoor concert and event center located in the heart of downtown Los Angeles. It hosts an array of free programs for the downtown community such as Swingin’ Wednesday, Lunchtime Concerts and Salsa Sundays. Summer Series at Levitt Pavilion – Stretch out on cool grass on a warm summer evening, gaze up at the stars and listen to an amazing kaleidoscope of music in the peaceful setting of Memorial Park in Old Pasadena. Summer Series at Japanese American National Museum – Located in Little Tokyo near Downtown Los Angeles, the Japanese American National Museum is proud to present the 1st & Central Summer Concerts. Enjoy an array of diverse cultural music as the mission of the museum is to promote cross-cultural diversity and understanding. Reservations are required for all programs and seating is limited. Summer Series at California Plaza – Grand Performances presents free performing arts that reflect the best of global culture and inspire community among the diverse peoples of Los Angeles. Located at California Plaza in the heart of the Financial District in Downtown Los Angeles, this spectacular venue hosts an eclectic group of talented artists from all over the world. Summer Series at Los Angeles County Museum of Art – LACMA, Every Friday, April through December, admission-free jazz concerts are presented on the Los Angeles Times Central Court from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. These events feature the art of jazz as practiced by outstanding jazz artists from Los Angeles and elsewhere. Also, launched in conjunction with LACMA`s Latin American Art Initiative, Latin Sounds offers free eclectic music from various regions throughout Latin America. The venue is the LACMA park amphitheater. LACMA`s Latin American Art Initiative was established, in collaboration with the UCLA Chicano Studies Research Center (CSRC), to create a greater understanding of Chicano and Latino arts and cultures for the wider public through varied programs at the museum.
