Brazilian Musicians Living in California that Helps to Spread the Brazilian Culture Through Music
By Lindenberg Junior | Translation: Amanda Peter
Around the world, Brazilian music is appreciated and loved, and its rhythms and beauty can be recognized by whoever has the opportunity to get in contact with it. Just like soccer, Brazilian music became a trend almost everywhere you go. Bossa Nova was very much responsible for that during the 60’s and afterward, and it opened the doors for other Brazilian rhythms to thrive beyond Brazilian boundaries.
Great musicians from all over the globe are now singing and playing Brazilian music, and in the U.S we have a bunch of them! Including in the Golden State in cities such as Los Angeles, San Diego, Orange County, Santa Barbara, and San Francisco. There are too many Brazilian musicians here in California to be able to showcase them all at once. We believe that, among those who dedicate part-time and full-time to music, this number could easily exceed 150 or maybe 200.
For obvious reasons, when we initially started this project in 2015 in one of our print/digital editions, we told the stories of 8 of these musicians, giving priority to those who have resided in California for the longest time. We continued with 6 more in 2016, 8 again in 2017 and have continued to do so almost every year since. Below you will find an updated list of the Brazilian musicians we have featured over the years, clickable and redirectable to their respective articles, and it grows every year!
As a Brazilian media group in California, we are proud to have started this project years ago to expose them in a different way and help spread Brazilian culture through music. Are you a Brazilian musician? I would like to recommend you read an article produced in April 2025 about how to best distribute your music in an age that is more digital than ever.
Finally, I would like to add that more recently we have included some American musicians with a Brazilian heart, who sing or play and breathe Brazilian music. And that some of these articles are in English and others in Portuguese.
