“Connected by the Soul” reflects on how digital communication can create genuine human connection. Through emails, messages, and shared words, people separated by distance can offer comfort, affection, and emotional support. The text reminds us that tenderness, care, and love can travel instantly—sometimes healing us with a single click of “send.”

I’ve felt hugged many times through a computer

I once received an email that said, “Receiving emails is good for your health.” Whether or not this has been scientifically proven, I can’t say. But when I examine my own feelings, I have no doubt that it’s true.

Lately, I’ve had the privilege of meeting extraordinary people from all walks of life—people who entered my life, just as I entered theirs, at the most unexpected moments. They brought messages of optimism, humor, and reflections on quality of life. Even separated by thousands of kilometers, I’ve felt close to people who became important to me through the computer.

Human Warmth in a Digital World

I am deeply impressed by people who are genuinely caring and willing to offer words of comfort and motivation during difficult times. Even those who write to criticize an article do so with delicacy and respect, offering thoughtful contributions and alternative points of view. I welcome these perspectives, as they help me grow as a person.

Those who dislike computers may not yet be familiar with the tender loving care they can transmit. I’ve often heard that a computer cannot replace a hug. Still, I must confess: in recent weeks, I’ve felt hugged many times.

Beyond “Virtual” Friendship

Some people send me poems, songs, and essays. Others introduce me to their families or share their talents with generosity. Is this what we call virtual friendship? I’ll say this: many of these people are not virtual at all. Their affection has long since become real and tangible.

In a short time, many people pass through my digital life—leaving a message and moving on. Others remain, becoming more than just a name on a contact list. I confess they have earned a place in my heart. I wait for their messages like a teenager waiting for a visit. And if this truly is a “teenager’s thing,” then perhaps we should never grow up.

Balance, Care, and Emotional Energy

Of course, as with everything in life, the intensity and frequency with which we use this form of connection must be considered. Still, the surprise of receiving a thoughtful message can generate a real internal flow of energy—sometimes even therapeutic.

Even when a message is long, unclear, or slow to open, something magical can happen. Suddenly, out of nowhere, comes that one word, image, or encouragement you truly needed. Just when you had given up, there it is: You’ve got mail.

Discernment and the Power of “Send”

Yes, we receive a lot of junk emails—but isn’t life like that too? Our task is to learn how to discern between what nourishes us and what doesn’t.

What I know is that I haven’t forgotten many names because of two fundamental qualities: initiative and investment. These people earned a place in my life. Even when it’s hard to reply to everyone as quickly as we’d like, I believe it’s always worth dedicating time to spread tenderness and love—with just one click of the “Send” button.
