x The art exhibition “Amazônia Brasil” came to New York City following successful runs in Paris, Lausanne and Sao Paulo. The exhibition than follows to Tokyo, Monaco and the Netherlands. Amazônia Brasil is a 3 months exhibit that’s raising awareness of the Amazon as the last great tropical ecosystem and who’s goal is to bring lessons on sustainable living to New Yorkers and the rest of the world. In the big apple it is set in a 13,000 ft.2 tented along Pier 17; and is a innovative Special Curricula Developed for NYC 3rd and 6th graders.

Pier 17 – South Street Seaport: Amazônia Brasil flagship 13,000 sq foot exhibit of the Amazon. A literal walk through the Amazon, visitors will be transported to the heart of the Forest through life-size panels, photos, sounds and installations that recreate the multifaceted Amazonian environment including its biodiversity, its people, villages and cities.
World Financial Center Courtyard Gallery: Amazônia Design, Fashion & Sustainable Economy – Presented in association with Arts World Financial Center, a sustainable design exhibit with the top fashion and furniture designers from Brazil presenting conceptual products for sustainable production in the contemporary market.
Smithsonian’s National Museum of the American Indian: “Guardians of the Forest” Photography exhibit. Seminars on climate change and indigenous people of the Amazon in different locations throughout the city.
NYC Board of Education – lessons about the Amazon was included in the curriculum of grade school students. Amazônia Brasil was sponsored by Alcoa and Alcoa Foundation and has the support of the Amex Foundation and IBM. It has the institutional support of the Brazilian Ministry of Culture and the Brazilian Ministry of Environment. Amazônia Brasil has partnered with the Central Park Conservancy, Smithsonian’s National Museum of the American Indian, NYC Department of Education, The New York Botanical Garden and World Financial Center.
In another distint projet to disseminate and raise everyone’s awareness of the need to protect the Amazon ecosystem and the indigenous communities, we would like to mention the “Amazonia Exhibition” with photographs of Sebastião Salgado, a renowned photo artist and photojournalist which celebrates the Brazilian rainforest, its landscape and indigenous people. It urges us to reflect on the fragile balance between humans and nature and the beauty of an area of our planet that is at risk.
The exhibition has travelled to many iconic locations around the globe, including Rome, London, New York, Sao Paulo, Avignon, Rio de Janeiro, Milan, Zurich and Madrid with over 200 extraordinary black-and-white photos – a product of Salgado’s intrepid seven-year voyage into the Amazon. In 2024 the exhibition was in Singapure and Spain. In 2025 the exhibition will have stops in Mexico City, Brussels, Lisbon, and Cologne (Germany).
