(Sun, Jan 16, 7pm) Hamilton de Holanda Trio at Travis Auditorim in Pasadena. De Holanda is a Brazilian string genius and a fiercely melodic improviser who delivers flashing, exquisitely crafted lines on his custom-made 10-string mandolin-like bandolin. He appears with his stellar trio featuring pianist Salomão Soares—an imaginative improviser whose sound bridges classical, jazz, and the vibrant traditions of Brazil’s northeast—and drummer Thiago “Big” Rabello, who weaves the polyrhythmic intricacies of Brazilian music seamlessly into a jazz framework, driving the ensemble with irresistible energy.

(Through Fri, Dec 11) Solastolgia Art Exhibition at Carolyn Campagna Kleefeld Contemporary Art Museum, Long Beach. This FREE “eco-grief” exhibition explores the emotional impact of environmental devastation and ecological decline. Featuring work by nine artists across a range of media, “Solastalgia” reflects on species loss, degraded landscapes, the roots of the climate crisis, and the communities most affected.
(Sat, Dec 13) Hermosa Beach Sand Snowman Contest, FREE! Snowmen may be rare on the SoCal coast, but that doesn’t stop Hermosa Beach from making them. At this beloved annual event, participants of all ages put their sculpting skills to the test by building snow figures out of sand. (Sept 14, 2025 to July 26, 2026) Jaws: The Exhibition Los Angeles at the Academy Musuem of Motion Pictures is a FREE to attend admission for children under 17. For adults, standard admission costs $25. The newest temporary exhibition looks at Steven Spielberg’s groundbreaking blockbuster film Jaws (1975). It is the first-ever exhibition of this scale at the Academy Museum, focused exclusively on a single film, and the largest mounted exhibition ever for Jaws, the Oscar-winning film from Universal Pictures. It celebrates the film’s 50th anniversary and revisits Jaws scene by scene, through original objects, behind-the-scenes revelations, and interactive moments.
SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA FREE SUMMER SERIES – MUSIC, DANCE AND FILM
Every Summer one of the greatest things in California is the Free Outdoor and Indoor Music Series in different venues/locations in the golden state – live music and dance FREE to the public is offered during the whole summer every year. Here bellow we cover mostly of these events in Southern California – or at least the best ones!
The Summer Sessions Free Outdoor Concert at the Getty Center in L.A – Each year the series presents a diverse lineup of musical talents, many of whom mix and match musical traditions and genres. The series showcased a myriad of musical styles, from hip-hop, blues, and rock, to Latin boogaloo, Afro-Peruvian jazz, Mexican cabaret, merengue, electronic beats, Indian rhythms, and even Algerian trance music. All concerts are free and no reservations are needed. Concerts take place from 6:00 p.m. until 9:30 p.m. at the J. Paul Getty Museum at the Getty Center. www.getty.edu
Summer Series Culver City Music Festival – The Culver City re-development agency and the City of Culver City Presents every year the Annual Culver City Summer Sunset Music Festival. Listen to a mix of Jazz, Samba, Bluegrass, 60’s Rock and World Music at the Culver City Hall Courtyard. Bring a blanket, chairs and a picnic basket and get ready to dance the night away with your family and friends! Summer Series at Fisherman’s Village – Located in beautiful Marina Del Rey in L.A area, Fisherman’s Village offers Saturday concerts from 1:00pm – 4:00pm. Summer Series at Burton Chace Park – The Free Marina del Rey Summer Concerts are held in a beautiful waterside setting at Burton Chace Park. The series features Thursday evening classical concerts showcasing the Marina del Rey Summer Symphony, with Frank Fetta, conductor and guest soloists. On alternate weeks, Saturday pop concerts star celebrated musical entertainers. You are welcome to bring a picnic basket full of your favorite foods! Summer Series at Pershing Square – Pershing Square is an outdoor concert and event center located in the heart of downtown Los Angeles. It hosts an array of free programs for the downtown community such as Swingin’ Wednesday, Lunchtime Concerts and Salsa Sundays. Summer Series at Levitt Pavilion – Stretch out on cool grass on a warm summer evening, gaze up at the stars and listen to an amazing kaleidoscope of music in the peaceful setting of Memorial Park in Old Pasadena. Summer Series at Japanese American National Museum – Located in Little Tokyo near Downtown Los Angeles, the Japanese American National Museum is proud to present the 1st & Central Summer Concerts. Enjoy an array of diverse cultural music as the mission of the museum is to promote cross-cultural diversity and understanding. Reservations are required for all programs and seating is limited. The Summer Series at Los Angeles County Museum of Art – LACMA, have admission-free jazz concerts that are presented on the Los Angeles Times Central Court usually between 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. These events feature the art of jazz as practiced by outstanding jazz artists from Los Angeles and elsewhere. The museum has so many things to do at no charge and is really fun for the whole family! www.lacma.org It is located at 5905 Wilshire Blvd, Los Angeles, between Fairfax and La Brea. City of Beverly Hills “Summer Nights” – The city of Beverlly Hills offer the Concerts on Canon summer season which kicks off in 2024 with Pride Night! Pride Night featured artists Boyish and Yancyabril are from Music Forward Foundation’s LGBTQ+ Emerging Artists Award program. City of Hermosa Beach Sunset Concerts – The Hermosa Beach Concert Series will debut in 2024, repositioning the City’s 25-year tradition of free concerts on the beach.
