Image Music Fundo de Quintal DivulgacaoThe Grammy Nominee Brazilian Group “Fundo de Quintal” is back to Los Angeles for a performance at CATCH ONE, Sunday, March 23rd. The samba and pagode band in their U.S Tour have stops in New York (Fri 14 at Melrose Ballroom), in Boston ( Sat 15 at Oceanside Events Center ), in Miami (Sun 16 at Zeyzey), in Washington (Wed 19 at Black Cat), Philadelphia (Fri 21 at Ipanema Sports Bar and Grill), and Houston (Sat 22 at Ayva Center ).

The group from Rio de Janeiro is one of the most important bands of Samba (Pagode style) bands of Brazil. Everything started in Cacique de Ramos (Indian Chiefs of Ramos), a suburb of Rio where they started meeting to sing, play, drink, and dance in samba jam sessions in the 1970s. The group has earned numerous gold and platinum records along with ten Sharp awards, Brazil’s former equivalent of the Grammy, and seven of them received consecutively as the best samba-pagode band in Brazil.

The group is composed of five musicians – Bira Presidente, Ubirany, Sereno, Ademir Batera and Ronaldinho. Three additional percussionists show audiences a greater variety of samba instruments. Fundo de Quintal It’s good to remember that the group Fundo de Quintal introduced maverick instruments, such as the banjo, into samba giving it new spice and flavor. Singer Beth Carvalho, one of the “live legends” of samba, said “this is the example of the most authentic samba.”

Fundo de Quintal brought a new public to the samba, inspired a generation of sambistas and had an uncommonly large influence on fledgling groups. Their sound emanated beyond the periphery of Brazil to the World. Theirs is music designed to be played in a social context, not listened to in hushed reverence. On June 17, 2007, in a memorable night, they performed at Hollywood’s John Anson Ford Amphitheatre, as part of the “Brazilian Summer Nights” produced by Brazilian Nites at this time.

The rootsy euphoria of the group whose name is synonymous with pagode, Rio de Janeiro’s “backyard samba band” (Fundo de Quintal), after other stops in Los Angeles since then, finally come back to Los Angeles. The group has 45 years of success in Brazilian Popular Music. It is no wonder that they are recognized as the most awarded and respected group in the genre in history.
