The fast food giant is planning to extend the deal beyond the original four-week window in most of its U.S. markets, stating that the offer has started driving traffic back to its restaurants. The $5 Value Meal seems to be a success.
Executives of the company wrote that nearly every business unit, encompassing 93% of its restaurants, voted to extend the promotion past its original end date which is coming up at the end of July, hoping to extend it through August 2024.
The meal was originally rolled out beginning June 25th and was only planned to run for a month. It includes a McChicken or McDouble, four-piece chicken nuggets, fries, and a drink. The value meal costs substantially less than the items purchased separately.
“Our message is resonating with our millions of customers. When our customers are ordering the $5 Meal Deal, they aren’t visiting the competition, and early performance shows this deal is meeting the objective of driving guests back to our restaurants,” stated Myra Doria and Tariq Hassan in a memo, national field president and U.S. chief marketing and customer experience officer respectively.
This boost has come at a time when many fast food restaurants, especially McDonald’s, have been criticized by consumers for the rise in prices on the menu. Inflation has been pushing up the prices and driving customers away from the beloved fast-food chain. Recently, many companies, including Starbucks, have been looking for ways to draw back value-conscious customers in a highly competitive environment. The memo continued: “We must remember that driving guest counts ultimately propels our business and is the key to sustained growth.”
Several other fast food chains including Burger King, Wendy’s, Starbucks and Taco Bell have rolled out comparable discounts this summer 2024 to entice customers voicing frustrations over fast food high prices.Wendy’s also announcing a new mobile app exclusive where customers can get the Honey Buddy — its Honey Butter Chicken Biscuit breakfast sandwich – for just $1 every Monday through the end of September 2024 with any purchase.According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics Consumer Price Index, the cost of going out to eat has outpaced the cost of groceries each month this year.
