The Brazilian community and lovers of Brazilian culture had the opportunity to celebrate the “Brazilian Day in San Diego” again this year, in a beautiful, hot and sunny day. The biggest outdoor event had new attractions this year including a beer garden and a VIP lounge. After eight years of the big party being at Garnet Street on the iconic Pacific Beach, this years event was held at Belmont Park located in Mission Beach in the parking lot beside the giant freewheel that has identified Belmont Park for years. The entrance, as always, was free.
Among the attractions there were the traditional Brazilian carnival parade, a large stage for the musicians and dance group performances, a food court to taste a variety of dishes and the presence of popular Brazilian restaurants and catering companies, a special reserved area just for kids, and a VIP area filled with Brazilian celebrities from the areas of sports, music and art.
This year the event brought the headline show with Brazil’s iconic pop star, Carlinhos Brown. Singer, songwriter, record producer, and percussionist, Brown is a two time Latin Grammy winner, coach on The Voice Brazil and The Voice Kids Brazil. His high energy show followed the parade, and kept the people dancing with tropicalia, reggae, and Brazilian percussion. At the stage, the public sang his greatest hits, jumped and danced until the end of the concert.
Ronan Horta, the famous soap opera actor from Brazil, was the presenter and host for the Brazilian Day San Diego in 2016. For the first time, the event had a beer garden, and the reserved area had capacity for 1,000 people. This expertly organized party received all Brazilian culture lovers who celebrated the big party Brazilian style with energetic rhythms, exotic flavors and colorful environment, all under the authentic California summer atmosphere.
