Lúcia’s songs are her history and also our history. The fiery redhead’s soulful interpretations pay reverence to the past with a clairvoyance that sweeps concert-goers up into a proper musical celebration. She has such a gift for expressing the core emotion of each piece, it sometimes seems like she is breathing rather than singing.
Born in a small town in the state of Ceara, northeast of Brazil, Lúcia has built a noted career as a performer and recording artist. She was nominated for Best Singer in the Brazilian Music Award and won twice the Cultural Foundation of Fortaleza’s award for Best Singer. Her latest release Lúcia (Biscoito Fino Records) is a joyful homage to traditional Brazilian music and features collaborations of Chico Buarque and Miúcha. Her previous albums includes “Pintando e Bordando” which she earned her Brazilian Music Award nomination and “Lúcia Menezes”.
Lucinha Menezes, as she is known in Brazil, also likes to sing songs by the well-known singer and childhood friend, Belchior. In 1990, when Lucia decided to record her first album, she invited Belchior to be her artistic director. Invitation accepted, he suggested that she record one side of his songs, the other side with works by singer Fagner. Both singers, natives from Ceara as Lucinha. And so his first album “Divina Comedia Humana” of 1991 coming out. Performing for the first time in San Diego at Cafe Bar Europe with Ted Falcon (Mandolin and Violin), Nando Duarte (7-Strings Guitar), Clarice Cast (Percussion) and Gee Rabe (Accordion) – www.theturquoise.com
