The 19th NBFF will spotlight the film “Rust” followed a Gala Celebration of Latino film, food and culture on Wednesday, May 2nd, 2018 as part of the “Latino Showcase” that will also feature films of Mexico, Argentina and Chile. “Rust” (Ferrugem) is a film that brings an actual and universal theme as internet and mobile phones.
Follows classmates Tati and Renet, two young adults, have formed a relationship through their cell phones. A school weekend trip grants them the perfect opportunity to connect in person, but things take a different turn when a sexual video of Tati is leaked and goes viral among her peers. The intimate drama is directed by Brazilian director Aly Muritiba and stars Tiffanny Dopke, Enrique Diaz, Clarissa Kiste, Giovanni de Lorenzi, Dudah Azevedo, and Pedro Inoue.
“The Festival is exceptionally proud to showcase such strong Brazilian cinema,” stated Gregg Schwenk, CEO of the Newport Beach Film Festival. “We look forward to presenting compelling contemporary works of Brazilian filmmakers and hosting a sensational event that celebrates Brazilian art and culture.”
The Brazilian Spotlight film will screen at 7:45 p.m. on Wed, May 2nd at The Triangle (1870 Harbor Blvd, Costa Mesa, CA 92627). The post-screening celebration will take place starting 9:30pm at Time Nightclub (1875 Newport Blvd. B245 Costa Mesa, CA 92627) and as part of the Latino Showcase. The evening will include several of Orange County’s top restaurants serving signature tastings, multiple DJs, live entertainment and hosted bar by Tequila Herradura.
The admission to the Latino / Brazilian Spotlight is $20 (only the screening film), $30 (only the afterpary) and $45 (screening and afterparty).
