We begin with an introduction to the most important business city in South America: São Paulo. Known as the largest city in Brazil, São Paulo also holds other impressive — and often overlooked — titles. It is home to the largest Japanese community outside Japan and the largest Lebanese community outside Lebanon. Immigrants from all over the world contribute to its vibrant multicultural identity, making it a cosmopolitan hub where people from diverse backgrounds gather in search of better business opportunities.

This diversity fuels a dynamic economic environment. São Paulo offers countless opportunities for those seeking successful business ventures, whether through trade fairs, exhibitions, or its vast range of goods and services. The city’s numbers leave no doubt about its capacity to host events — on average, one every six minutes. Known as “the city that never stops,” São Paulo hosts nearly 100,000 events annually, including trade shows, fairs, conventions, concerts, parties, meetings, and cultural gatherings.

Major Trade Fairs and Business Events

Some of Brazil’s most significant business deals take place in São Paulo. Among the most prominent trade fairs are:

  • Salão Internacional do Automóvel – Traditionally held at Parque Anhembi, this International Auto Show is one of the most important automotive events in Latin America.

  • Expo Music – Hosted at Expo Center Norte, it is a key event for the music industry.

  • Salão de Duas Rodas – Also held at Parque Anhembi, focusing on motorcycles and two-wheel vehicles.

  • São Paulo Fashion Week – Hosted at Pavilhão da Bienal do Ibirapuera, it is the largest fashion event in Brazil and enjoys major international recognition.

Business events generate billions in economic impact across venues, services, travel, and hospitality.

Mega Events and International Visibility

São Paulo also hosts mega events that generate millions of reais in revenue, particularly benefiting the service sector:

  • The Brazilian Grand Prix (Formula 1).

  • Fenasoft, one of the world’s largest information technology fairs.

  • The Mostra Internacional de Cinema de São Paulo.

Other high-attendance events include:

  • Virada Cultural, a 24-hour cultural celebration.

  • Corrida de São Silvestre, a globally renowned road race.

  • The Parada do Orgulho LGBT de São Paulo, the largest Pride parade in the world and among the top three events in sales volume and international tourist attraction.

Infrastructure and Business Capacity

An impressive 75% of Brazil’s major trade fairs take place in São Paulo. The city offers more than 400,000 square meters of event space, including venues such as:

  • Centro de Convenções Rebouças

  • São Paulo Expo

The financial impact of trade fairs in São Paulo is substantial. Annually, R$ 2.4 billion are spent in the sector, including R$ 700 million in venue rentals, R$ 700 million in equipment and services, and approximately R$ 8 billion in travel, hospitality, and transportation expenses.

A Global Business Capital

São Paulo’s efficient infrastructure positions it as a leader in Latin America and among the top 20 cities worldwide for business. The city offers over 42,000 hotel rooms, more than 33,000 taxis, a fleet of 500 helicopters, and over 200 heliports. It ranks second globally in number of private jets.

The city is served by two of Brazil’s busiest airports:

  • Congonhas Airport

  • São Paulo–Guarulhos International Airport
