What is Caipirinha? Who knows a bit of Brazil, for sure, knows what it is and inclusive, we guess, have drunk it. Brazil’s national drink and it’s distinctive flavor comes from cachaça (a distilled spirit made from fermented sugar cane juice) and lime. The pronunciation is [kajpiˈɾĩj̃ɐ] and can be made in different versions besides the traditional with lime.
You can find a version with kiwi or strawberry as an example. Here we will present a fusion between the traditional caipirinha and the Cuban mojito as we incorporate the mint but keeps the cachaça instead the rum that is used for making the mojito.
Ingredients:
2 limes
2 tbsp sugar
1 shot (size) of cachaça
5 fresh mint leaves
5 or 6 Ice cubes
The cachaça can easily be found at wine and liquor stores across the U.S but for sure in cities like New York, Boston, Miami, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Diego (and even Santa Barbara in California).
How to prepare:
- Cut a lime into small chunks or six small wedges.
- Using a mortar and pestle or even the end of a wooden spoon, mash the lime with the sugar, making sure to squeeze all juice from the lime and dissolving the sugar.
- Transfer the mixture to a drink shaker. Add the cachaça, mint leaves and ice cubes. Shake well about 8 to 10 times and pour into a glass.
Total Serving: One Caipirinha.
