Carlinhos will also be honored at a Party with Free Admission in his honor on Sunday, June 22 and will teach several workshops with his Samba no Pé Project.

A Legacy Born in Rio’s Heart

Born and raised in the vibrant neighborhood of Madureira, a cradle of samba in Rio, Carlinhos built his reputation as a lead passista (samba dancer) at Acadêmicos do Salgueiro, one of Rio’s most iconic samba schools. It was on the Sambadrome’s grand stage that his footwork, elegance, and authenticity made him a household name within the samba world. What sets Carlinhos apart is his unique ability to blend deep-rooted traditions with contemporary flair. His performances are not just dance routines – they’re living stories of resilience, joy, and Afro-Brazilian identity.

From Rio to the World — Now in Los Angeles, California

Over the years, Carlinhos has toured countries like Japan, France, Switzerland, Germany, and the United States, offering workshops, performances, and masterclasses. His arrival in Los Angeles marks another chapter in his international journey – bringing the unmistakable rhythm of Rio’s Carnival to the City of Angels. In L.A, a city that embraces diverse cultures and celebrates artistic expression, Carlinhos has connected with dance communities eager to experience authentic samba. Through classes and cultural exchanges, he shares not only steps, but also the spirit and soul of Brazil.

The Educator Behind the Dancer

Beyond his accolades as a performer, Carlinhos is a devoted educator and mentor. His teaching style reflects the oral tradition of samba – rooted in lived experience, rhythm, and community. Many of his students, both in Brazil and abroad, describe his classes as life-changing: a space to connect with heritage, movement, and self-expression. He’s also involved in social projects in Rio’s favelas, offering free dance instruction to youth as a means of empowerment and cultural preservation.

A Global Voice of Brazilian Culture

Despite his international fame, Carlinhos remains deeply connected to his roots in Madureira and the Salgueiro samba school. Every year, he’s present at the Rio Carnival – whether performing, coaching, or advising on the choreography of passista wings. His name has become synonymous with authentic samba, both on the parade avenue and across borders. For many Brazilians living abroad, seeing Carlinhos perform or teach is like touching home.
