For the entry of the year 2005, the Soul Brasil magazine gathered about 150 people between collaborators and guests, all wearing white, in respect to yemanja, the queen of the sea according to Yoruba traditions. The event took place at “El Pueblo” in Malibu, on the northern coast of Los Angeles. Attendees at the New Year party were encouraged to bring flowers, appetizers and drinks, to bid farewell to the year 2004 that was ending, and toast the arrival of the new year 2005.
The hosts of the evening, Suheila and Andrew (from Eathways Foundation), friends from India, France, USA and Brazil, as well staff and collaborators of Soul Brasil magazine were side by side, everyone together, in peace. An Afro-Brazilian ceremony that mixed faith and magic was set up by the Garcia’s family and a prayer for the people of the Tsunami tragedy was realized. After midnight, capoeira, batuque, music and dance brought to the party an “Axe Brasileiro”. Next morning, January first, Suheila brought flowers to the ocean, offering to Yemanja accompanied by requests for good luck for all.
A memorable night that will be present in the memory of all participants forever. A magical night with a lush view of the ocean.
