“Relationship, an Almost Romantic Comedy” with Brazilian Leandro Muniz as the director and writer, and two Brazilian actress, Julia Melim and Vanessa Jardim, in the cast, debut off-Broadway Sunday, Nov 8th, and continues for more two Sundays, on Nov 15th and Nov 22nd respectively, 9pm at Duplex Theatre in New York. Relationships is a one-act comedy written and directed by Muniz that applies a non-conventional approach to relationships and exposes the well-known struggles of romantic love.
Leandro Muniz is the writer’s new endeavor in his directorial off Broadway debut, which promises to be the next big hit from the Judd Apatow of Brazil. He has written for the big screen the hit box office success Meu Passado Me Condena (Don’t Judge Me By My Past), which was a successful enterprise that drove over 3.2 million people to movie theaters in Brazil in 2013. The sequel, Don’t Judge Me By My Past 2 hit theaters in June, 2015 and it’s already at the top box office success of the year.
Julia Melim is pleased to be making her off-Broadway debut in Relationships. She was recently seen at Rock in Rio 2015 as the on air host for Live X Live and AOL, as the voice of Smirnoff 2015 and on air as host/reporter for Hollywood TV. As a standup comedian, Julia created a show talking about her experience as a Brazilian in NYC “Brazilian Hour,” which was a sold out sensation at The Stand NYC. She studied at the Lee Strasberg Theatre & Film Institute and performed sketch and improv at the Upright Citizens Brigade.
Vanessa Jardim began her career as an actress at the age of fifteen, when she moved to Tokyo to act in television commercials. She returned to Brazil to begin her formal drama studies in 1998. Since then, she acted in various plays and features, as well as being in the theatre group “Actors of Laura” one of the most prestigious theatre companies in Rio. She also worked as a TV host for HBO, Play TV and Mix TV in Brazil. In New York she studied at the Lee Strasberg Theatre & Film Institute. She’s in the web series “ Amigo Gringo”, which is an Internet sensation with over 50-thousand views per month.
